Most people with vision correction issues want to know more about LASIK and whether it is right for them. Here is a brief description of the procedure:
A flap is surgically cut in the cornea and gently folded back. An Excimer Laser is used to reshape the cornea into a flatter shape (this is much like a contact lens corrects vision by forming a new shape on the cornea). The flap is then put back in place, acting like a natural bandage. The healing process is quick and the discomfort level is quite low.
People will often say that they did not feel anything, and could see well the very first day. Most people have improved vision in 24-48 hours. As with any surgical procedure, it must be noted that each person will heal at a different rate. Vision, although greatly improved immediately after surgery, often continues to improve for several weeks, even months.
LASIK is not for everyone. Everyone’s eyes are different. Even though you may have had a friend who has had LASIK, it may not be the best course of treatment for you. Born and raised in New York, Dr.Concool began his collegiate career when he attended Columbia University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He then received his Medical Doctorate from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, also in New York. Following completion of his medical school training, Dr. Concool served a three year residency in ophthalmology at Mt. Sinai. There he served as Chief Resident. He was one of the two residents selected nationwide for the prestigious fellowship of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Concool has been a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1985.
Dr. Concool’s refractive surgery experience dates back to 1983. With several thousand LASIK procedures performed, he is recognized as one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the country. In 2000, Dr. Concool was selected as the recipient of the VISX “Star” surgeon award as one of the top surgeons in the United States. He was also one of the first surgeons in the nation to be certified to perform LASIK on the VISX Star S4.
Dr. Concool is widely recognized among the medical community not only for his skills as a surgical specialist but his strong belief in the doctor/patient relationship. His ability to be meticulous and “detail oriented” in his approach to medicine with a proven outstanding surgical outcomes, and his support and involvement in the development of technological advances in refractive surgery have afforded Dr. Concool both a respected and successful practice. He provides and promotes only the latest and best in surgical eye care. Dr. Concool offers an advanced approach to LASIK called The IntraLase Method. With this method, he is able to offer his patients a 100% blade-free experience. Currently, Dr. Concool is the only surgeon in the state of Florida authorized to credential other surgeons to perform custom bladeless IntraLase.
Dr. Concool holds medical affiliations within the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and The American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition, he is an established member of many local, state, and national medical societies.
